Mary Stolzenburg, owner and operator of the Prairie Winds Studio has been an artist for over 40 years. A self- taught visionary artist and teacher, who reflects her deep beliefs of angels, faith and friendship in her painting and in her life.
The journey with nature began many years ago. She and her husband George and son Daniel are custom harvesters; making the trek every year from Okalahoma to North Dakota before returning to their home in Kansas.
They move the combines and trucks along many winding miles of the heartland and harvest wheat, small grains and row crops across the Midwest. Mary operates a combine or drives truck for the family operation. Many ‘hats’ are required to fill the bill for the mobile life style custom harvesters live. As wife and mother she provides a home-away-from-home for all the crew.
Mary was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1998. The art work has not only kept her mind off the cancer but has also created a spark in which to express her heartfelt feelings about her life, thus the harvest pictures, the landscapes, the flowers, and most of all the angels… which have graciously touched her body and inspired her spirit.
The journeys through the heartland provide peace, healing and inspiration for Mary’s art and life. As the seasons change…winter to spring…the call of the open road beckons. The seeds of possibilities, the growth of inspiration and harvest of blessings all wait to be captured again in the mind and on the canvas of Mary’s imagination!
